Balance Training Mistakes
Improving balance is one of the top goals of our members. Great balance allows you to remain independent as you age, reduce falls, and perform everyday movements with confidence.
Your risk of falling can be prevented by what you do now. Improving balance, strength, agility, and mobility is within your power.
The biggest balance training mistake is ONLY doing balance drills, not having a well rounded program that also improves strength, mobility, and flexibility. Too many people think just standing on a bosu ball is going to improve balance.
In order to improve balance that has carry over to everyday life we need to understand the three main categories of balance –
Static balance – Balance while standing or sitting.
Dynamic balance — moving
Functional balance – your ability to balance while performing tasks such as picking up an object from the floor, standing on one leg while getting dressed, or turning around to look at something while walking.
A well rounded program to improve balance needs to improve all three, especially functional balance.
Training to Prevent loss of muscle, mobility, and Endurance
Muscle loss – The natural loss of muscle mass, strength, and power as you age can put you at a much greater risk of losing balance and falling. A strength training program will prevent a rapid decline in strength, muscle, agility and power.
Loss of mobility – Lacking movement around the joints and flexibility will cause balance to decline. We do lots of exercises to improve mobility and flexibility to prevent this.
Limited endurance – muscle fatigue can lead to a loss of coordination or simply misstepping. This is another quality and something that is easy to improve with some work.
Do not use the excuse of “I am too old.” You have the power to improve balance! If you need help designing a well rounded program email us at [email protected] or text FREE TRIAL to 757 589 7028
