☑️  Overestimating Calories Burned? Afterburn?

I see this all the time. Someone comes in and says they burned 600 calories on some cardio machine, or class.  9 times out of 10 their estimate is off, by a lot. 

Even the best  trackers are off. And don’t get me started about the actual cardio machines. They are off by A LOT!

Is the “Afterburn” real ? Yes and No. It’s completely blown out of proportion. There is nothing magical about a workout or super treadmill that causes you to burn tons of calories hour later. 

If the tracker motivate you to move, that is great. Maybe you track it in your journal and get motivated. But it’s possible to exercise without a tracker. 

Do not obsess over the calories burned during exercise. Real fat loss is so much more than this. If fat loss is your goal then you need to focus on …

Doing strength training! – Strength training will allow you to hold on to muscle during a fat loss phase. Will help maintain or improve metabolism. This will make it easier to avoid the dreaded plateau. You will be burning more calories 24 hours per day, not just while you are working out. 

Develop sound habits with nutrition- Is your name Caeleb Dressel? If the answer to this question is no, then you are going to have to watch your diet in order to lose fat. You will not out-train a bad diet. Of course the exercise helps , but it will take more.
