Weight Loss vs. Fat Loss: Lose 10 Pounds in a Month?!

Can You Lose 10 Pounds in a Month?

A realistic goal for fat loss is 1-2 pounds per week. Keep in mind that weight loss and fat loss are two different things. Below are a few factors to consider…

Weight Loss vs. Fat Loss

The goal is to lose fat, not muscle. Extreme dieting without strength training will cause you to lose muscle. You do not want to lose weight just to look and feel worse.

Do not believe the “muscle weighs more than fat” myth. A pound is a pound. A pound of fat takes up more space. We have had clients lose fat, gain muscle, and look drastically different at the same weight. It’s always a good idea to look at more than the scale.

Why Does My Husband Lose Weight Faster Than Me?

Men usually have more muscle mass than women. If someone has more muscle and more fat to lose, the weight will come off much quicker.

Must read about Don’t ignore Mobility Training!

It’s so important to focus on strength training and maintaining muscle if the goal is fat loss. It’s about more than endless cardio. The muscle mass will help you lose fat consistently over longer periods of time.

Water Weight and Fluctuations in Weight

It’s normal for your weight to fluctuate. Salt, water, hormones, a crazy weekend, and other factors will cause this.

Don’t get too excited when you lose 3 to 5 pounds in a day or two. Don’t get too scared when you gain 3 to 5 pounds over the weekend.

Track your weight along with measurements and body fat percentage. Take your weight at the same time under the same conditions.

A Solid Fat Loss Program

You need more than cardio! Include strength training to maintain muscle as you lose weight.

You need to find cardio that works for your body type. Endless running on a treadmill causes a lot of injuries. No, I am not saying running is bad. I am telling you that most people call that a plan. It is not.

Include flexibility and mobility work! A major part of training for anything is NOT getting injured! Find a professional that will work on your technique and develop an overall program.

You can’t outtrain a bad diet! Focus on developing solid nutritional habits. Stay away from the fad diets!
