Today, a few tips on getting in shape for the summer without extreme diets or crazy workout programs. The goal is NOT to lose the weight, just to put it back on. The goal is to develop solid habits. The goal is to lose fat and keep it off forever. A few tips ……
Start with Realistic expectations for fat loss –
If your goal is to lose 20 pounds of fat in a month, that is not realistic. If you are losing a pound or two per week, that is fast progress. Even half a pound a week is solid progress. If you have less weight to lose, then you are not going to lose as fast as someone who is bigger with more fat and muscle mass.
We are trying to lose fat, not muscle. We are trying to keep the weight off forever!
This progress is AFTER you have dialed things in with exercise and nutrition. It usually takes people some time before they are able to find their formula for fat loss. Hiring a personal trainer will speed up this process.
Extreme diets do not work. You might lose some fat, but you will put it back on.
Extreme diets cause you to lose water and muscle. You will look at the scale and think you won. You will then look in the mirror and realize you lost, some muscle and water. It’s possible to lose weight and look worse. It’s about more than the scale.
Don’t go from zero workouts to 30 hardcore workout in a month
If you have done nothing for the past few months, don’t go into daily hardcore workouts. You need a solid plan to transition into exercise. If not, I guarantee you will just end up injured and not able to do anything.
You need more than cardio, more than random booty and triceps exercises. I see people make this mistake all the time. They think cardio burns off the fat. They think they can do isolation exercises for abs, butt, triceps, and that will solve their problem. It will not.
