Core Training Mistakes
We see a lot of mistakes when it comes to core training. I have listed a few below.
Are abs made in the kitchen?
Yes and no. You will not see your abs if they are covered by fat. But a strong core requires a lot of hard work and a plan specific to your needs and body type.
Only Doing Isolation Exercises
This is a big mistake! The people who do endless sets of crunches and other ab exercises thinking it will make their abs appear will be disappointed. Spot reduction is not possible.
A well-rounded routine is required to develop a strong core. You need compound and isolation movements.
Studies show that exercises like squats, deadlifts, and overhead presses activate the core just as much or more than traditional ab exercises.
Technique and Mind-Muscle Connection
Using good form is always important! Do not rush through the exercises. Learn how to do them correctly. Learn how to breathe. Slow and controlled beats doing incomplete and fast reps.
Chasing the Burn!
A lot of people chase the burn when it comes to core work. The burn does not mean you have an effective core program. Your program might not even be safe.
For example, exercises like full sit-ups are not safe and effective. Will you feel the burn? Yes! You will also end up with back pain from doing endless sit-ups.

There are different types of core exercises. Your core will feel different doing a plank or farmer’s walk compared to crunches or bicycle abs. You need a well-rounded program, not just chasing “feel the burn” exercises.
No Recovery!
The abs need to recover like every other muscle. They can usually handle higher frequency compared to other muscles, but they still need to recover. It’s a mistake to hammer them daily with hardcore volume and intensity.
What is Your Opinion on the Carnivore Diet?
I am not a fan of this diet.
The carnivore diet consists of only eating animal products. You are not allowed to eat anything else. I’m not a fan of a diet that removes veggies and fruits. No carbs. No fiber. I do not think it’s safe to follow this long term.
It’s possible to lose weight and NOT get healthier. If a diet is only judged by weight loss, then every diet can work.
Youth Training?
Do You Offer Youth Training?
Yes!!
We have a solid team of trainers when it comes to working with youth! We focus on building the foundation that so many places skip.
We start off with a free consultation to understand their needs. We have some who are looking for general fitness and others who are athletes.
Between our three services, we can help you find the best option:
- 1-on-1 Training: Always a great fit.
- Semi-Private Groups: 2 to 5 people. This works out great to reduce the cost and still get personal attention. They can create their own groups or join ours.
- General Fitness Sessions: We have youth in our general fitness sessions. This can work out very well for general fitness goals.
