Defying “Normal”
Our body is in a perpetual state of decision: Will we get younger or older? Some of this is beyond our control – old cells naturally give way to new ones.
However, we have a significant say in whether these new cells emerge strong and resilient or weak and vulnerable to disease. How we treat our body plays a pivotal role in this process.
If we choose to treat our body like a couch potato, opting for Apple Jacks at breakfast and ice cream for lunch, the outcome is likely to be soft, weak muscles and a medicine cabinet full of pills.
On the flip side, if we pamper our body with strength training and a variety of physical activities such as walking, biking, swimming, and hiking, accompanied by wholesome foods that our genes are primed to thrive on, the rewards will be quite different.
Picture yourself in your 60s, 70s, or even 80s, with the ability to do as you please, whenever you please, without your body ever holding you back. The alternative is facing the last third of your life in pain and endless visits to the doctor’s office.
I’m not trying to scare you, but I want to emphasize that the choices you make today are writing the script for the role your future self will play in your life story.
