Dealing with low back pain? Joint pain?
Everyone will deal with injuries at some point in their life. It can be hard to know if you should exercise, or skip your session. Hard to know what exercises are safe, and what exercises will make things worse. A few tips….
Should you go to the gym or skip?
Every situation is different. Consult with professionals. We have had quite a few clients where we ditch the plan for the day if they are injured. The entire session just might be stretching and mobility work. In most cases we can still work some parts of the body. This will usually lead to you feeling better as long as you avoid painful exercises.
What exercises should I do with low back pain?
We always start off with an assessment. Everyone is different. A few things we usually focus on for those with low back pain…
Improve hip mobility – tight hips will lead to low back. We spend a lot of time on hip mobility exercises
Proper technique – this is obvious that proper technique is essential for staying safe and getting the most out of every exercise.
Core strength – This will help reduce low back pain. Some people think improving core strength will prevent low back pain. It’s more than this. We have to look at the big picture, assess everything.
Posture – We design an overall program to address posture and overall strength. Most therapists will just focus on the injured area. You need an overall program if you want to prevent the pain from coming back.

What exercises are not safe?
The best exercise in the world can be the worst exercise in the world. It depends on the person.
I am not a fan of programs that force everyone into doing barbell work. I am not a fan of programs that have 20-30 people in a room and it’s just a beat down session. I am not a fan of programs that do not help people modify exercises.
